Super Bowl is the annual league championship game of the National Football League of the United States, it has replaced the National Football Championship Game since 1966, and served as final game of every NFL. Since 2022 it has been played on 2nd Sunday of every February month. Prior it is called as AFL-NFL World Championship.
History and Schedule of Super Bowl
It was first played as “Tournament East-west football game” as a part of Pasadena Tournament of roses in 1902. Modern Super Bowl has started in 1967 and from 1967 to 1978 it has been played from the beginning to mid of every January. In between 1979 to 2003 last of January month and from 2004 to 2021 in February’s first Sunday. The winner teams are awarded with “Vince Lombardi Trophy” in the name of first two Bowl winner coach. The Day on which it is played is generally called as “Super Bowl Sunday”.
Why Super Bowl Came to Existence.
Super Bowl is played due to the part of merger agreement in between NFL and AFL (American Football League) in 1966. So that best team can participate for the championship. Before the merger of AFL and NFL they both claimed 2-2 championship. But after the merger in 1970, 10 AFL and 3 NFL made “American Football Conference” and other 13 team of NFL made “National Football Conference”. Since 1971 Super bowl is played in between the best team of AFC and NFC.
